Construction Field Engineer
Job Description
Project Overview This role supports capital improvement projects. The position provides project management support across engineering, design, construction, and asset improvement initiatives, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Job Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Manage projects throughout the full lifecycle, from initiation through closeout, with guidance from senior project staff.
- Coordinate internal teams, consultants, contractors, and external stakeholders to execute multiple projects concurrently.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, funding requests, presentations, and procurement documentation.
- Support preparation of bid packages, evaluate proposals, and provide award recommendations.
- Ensure environmental, permitting, safety, code compliance, and stakeholder requirements are incorporated during planning and design.
- Coordinate construction activities, contract change orders, field modifications, outages, inspections, and quality testing.
- Monitor and report project status, including scope, schedule, cost, risks, and resource requirements.
- Review project documentation including drawings, specifications, reports, schedules, budgets, and risk assessments.
- Provide oversight of contractors and maintenance personnel, ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with approved work plans.
- Support emergency response activities and occasional work outside normal business hours as required.
Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Foundational project management experience supporting civil, mechanical, structural, water, utility, or infrastructure projects.
- Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to develop project plans, schedules, and coordinate activities across multiple parties.
- Familiarity with applicable engineering codes, regulations, permitting requirements, budgeting, and project management software.
- Ability to perform basic engineering calculations and adapt specifications and scopes of work to project-specific requirements.
- Collaborative, team-oriented approach with strong problem-solving skills.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental, or related Engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in project management, construction management, engineering, or infrastructure project delivery preferred.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain certification preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Approximately 25% travel to project sites and vendor facilities.
- Ability to work in industrial environments, including confined spaces and elevated locations when required.
- Flexibility to support projects outside normal business hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
