Job Description
The Construction Inspector is responsible for performing comprehensive Quality Assurance inspections and monitoring construction activities to ensure full compliance with project plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements. This role oversees field operations including excavation, loading, and off-haul of hazardous materials; verifies and/or conducts required construction testing; and ensures all work aligns with approved design documents. The Construction Inspector identifies and reports safety or environmental hazards, evaluates field conditions that may affect design intent, and supports successful project execution by coordinating with contractors, project staff, and stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct QA monitoring and inspection of construction work to verify adherence to plans, specifications, and industry standards.
- Monitor excavation activities and hazardous material handling, including loading and off-haul operations, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental protocols.
- Review plans, specifications, and shop drawings during construction and field services; identify discrepancies and recommend corrective measures.
- Report observed safety issues, environmental hazards, or field conditions requiring design adjustments.
- Support project scheduling by reviewing timelines, implementing inspection plans, and coordinating construction phases.
- Lead and/or participate in field meetings, assist in resolving construction issues, and respond to public or stakeholder concerns.
- Prepare and maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, progress summaries, meeting minutes, records, and quantity/progress estimates.
- Verify field measurements; analyze and implement approved change order requests.
Job Requirements
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Planning, or a related field.
- 4+ years of verifiable full-time experience in construction inspection, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, materials, and workmanship standards.
- Previous experience as a Superintendent or General Foreman supervising construction crews of more than six personnel is required.
- Current HAZWOPER certification is required.
